Peace be the Journey
Earlham, Iowa · Est. 2023
A working rescue farm and peaceful camp in the heart of the heartland — where every animal is celebrated and every guest is welcome.
Our Story
Nestled in the heart of the midwest, The Waypoint is a destination for those seeking peace, connection and a return to nature's rhythms.
Founded with a vision to create a sanctuary for both animals and visitors, we've built a community centered around the presence of our animals and the land that we share. Our mission is to provide exceptional care for our alpacas, horses, dogs & cats while sharing their calming influence with our community. Whether you're interested in learning about sustainable farming with alpacas, experiencing the comfort of animal therapy or simply enjoying a peaceful afternoon, The Waypoint welcomes you.
We believe in ethical environmental & animal stewardship and creating meaningful connections between people and animals. Every visit & donation supports our ongoing efforts to maintain this peaceful sanctuary.

The Residents
Every single one is rescued. Every single one has a name. Here's who you're supporting when you give to The Waypoint.
8 rescued · sponsorable
Dalton, Alfie, Winston, Eli, Chestnut, Hershey, Sebastian and Freddy. Eight rescued alpacas who have found their way to The Waypoint where they have bonded beautifully with our Great Pyrenees and outdoor cats.
Sponsor one →2 rescued
Dutch and Scout. Two rescued teenage horses who enjoy spending their days grazing the pasture, exploring the trails with their people and chomping on apples. Their presence brings a certain kind of magic to The Waypoint.
3 rescued Great Pyrenees
Violet, Dakota and Jasper. Three rescued Great Pyrenees who are the ultimate gentle protectors. With members of their herd, they are gentle, patient & playful. Pose a threat? I wouldn't recommend it.
4 rescued
George, Bill, Percy & Fred Weasley are littermates - can you tell? These boys were rescued from a KOA as babies and enjoy working together to keep The Waypoint mouse free.
Monthly Support
It's the simplest thing you can do. $7/month buys one bale of hay — real feed for real animals. Choose an amount that feels right.
1 bale of hay — the essential gift
2 bales — double the nourishment
A full week of feed
Any amount helps us keep going
Sponsorship Program
You won't be taking them home (you'd need at least three and a farm). But you can sponsor one of our alpacas and in exchange, you'll receive monthly photo updates, a Waypoint t-shirt and a free annual camp stay.
Sponsoring an alpaca from The Waypoint means you get to share in the joy of keeping our animals happy, healthy and well-fed.
Monthly sponsors get regular photo updates and early access to shop drops. Annual sponsors receive everything plus a free one-night camp stay — your alpaca will be very excited to meet you.
Dalton
Dalton is the steady alpha of our alpaca herd. He moved to The Waypoint in May of 2025 and quickly established himself as the boss while the other alpacas fell in line. He leads gently, mostly.
Alfie
Alfie (aka Alfredo) is an easy-going, handsome herd leader. He is gentle and trustworthy which has earned him the right to free range on our farm. Winston & Alfie are bonded buddies!
Winston
Winston is a classic alpaca in presentation and disposition. He has been with his nephew, Alfie, since he was one month old. Alfie & Winston are bonded buddies!
Eli
Eli would have you believe he is the hungriest alpaca and he just might be! Eli is super friendly, curious and most likely to get loud if things aren't going his way. Eli's fiber quality is award-winning.
Chestnut
Chestnut came to The Waypoint at three years old. While he is full of energy he is also most hesitant around humans. Chestnut is Hershey's big brother and Dalton's biological son.
Hershey
Our first cria, Hershey was just one year old when he moved to The Waypoint. He adores his big brother, Chestnut, and together they love to hassle their biological dad, Dalton.
Sebastian
At just two years old, Sebastian is gentle, patient and part of a local "Country Critters," program where he helps educate our community about farm animals and responsible stewardship.
Freddy
Freddy is Sebastian's shadow. Personal space? Forget about it. Freddy also participates in the local "Country Critters," program where he helps educate our community about farm animals and responsible stewardship.
Hipcamp & Harvest Hosts
Leave the hustle behind. Soak up the fresh air, swim in our limestone quarry pond and marvel at the beautiful Iowa skies. Fire pits. No agenda. Just good land and honest quiet.
Far enough from city lights that the Milky Way actually shows up for the occasion.
Morning feeding time with the alpacas. Supervised, unhurried, unforgettable.
Your site, your fire, your s'mores. We supply the wood; you supply the marshmallows.
This is a real, active farm. Nothing staged, nothing artificial. Just the real thing.
